David Ganger is an undergraduate researcher in the Center for Biosignatures Discovery Automation, Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University, directed by Deirdre Meldrum. He is currently pursuing his electrical engineering bachelor’s degree at Arizona State University, specializing in communications and signal processing. His research centers on the design of deep-sea robots for the discovery of life in extreme environments, as well as exploring underwater optical communication through modulating retroreflection. On this cruise, he hopes to utilize the heat production of metabolizing organisms to detect life on the ocean floor, in addition to deploying prototype optical communication systems for deep-sea use.
