Alexandra Powell
Undergraduate Student, U. of Western Ontario (Leg 2)
My name is Alexandra and I am an environmentalist from London, Ontario, Canada. I took Environmental Science at The University of Western Ontario where I completed my undergraduate degree. I love learning about how the Earth’s systems work and interact with one another. For my undergraduate thesis I studied the water chemistry of a set of hydrothermal vent samples from the East Scotia Ridge. Understanding the relationship between the geological and hydrothermal cycles at this ocean ridge was highly fascinating for me and I can’t wait to learn more about this complex and exciting system! Aboard the Thomas G. Thompson I hope to study the relationship between fluid composition and geology.
When not learning about the hydrological cycle, I most enjoy wandering through forests, admiring nature and hunting for wild edibles. I also love playing the guitar and piano, cooking, gardening and biking.
