The Enlighten '10 research cruise will take place on the University of Washington's R/V Thomas G. Thompson. The primary purpose of the cruise is to lay the foundation for the installation of secondary infrastructure (nodes, junction boxes, sensors, moorings, and extension cables) on the Regional Scale Nodes (RSN) cabled ocean observatory. This high-power (up to 200 kW) and high-bandwidth (up to 480 Gb/s) network off the Oregon coast is part of the National Science Foundation's Ocean Observatories Initiative. The University of Washington is taking the leading role in this cruise as the Implementing Organization (IO) for the RSN. Partner institutions on the cruise include Oregon State University (a member of the IO for the OOI Coastal and Global Scale Nodes) and Arizona State University
