I am a graduate student in the Biological Design PhD program at the Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. I received my BS in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Genetics, Cell, and Developmental Biology in May 2010. My Barrett Honors College thesis, which I completed in the Center for Biosignatures Discovery Automation, was entitled "Automated Microscopy Based Single Cell Cytotoxicity Assay: Cell Cycle Depdendent Toxicity Of Metalloporphyrins." My research involves developing new, high content methods for automated cytotoxicity measurements of exogenous probes using confocal laser microscopy. Additionally, I have also investigated stress gene expression related to flow-based single cell harvesting methods and near-infrared optical tweezer manipulation.
My interest includes the interface of biology and technology, specifically in the context of "use-inspired" innovation. In the future, I plan to study the possibility of simulated biology in microfluidic devices with respect to the current "laboratory-incompatible" biological environments.
