THE ENLIGHTEN '10 CRUISE HAS ENDED. THANK YOU FOR JOINING US VIRTUALLY ON THIS EXPEDITION.
We hope you will enjoy our archived videos here. Many of them were produced and posted during the cruise.
As a major component of the National Science Foundation's Ocean Observatories Initiative, we used a high-definition underwater video camera to stream live video from an area of methane hydrates and from the top of a highly active underwater volcano, both off the coast of Oregon.
The live video from the seafloor showed exotic and luxuriant animal communities that have never seen the sun. As permitted by weather, equipment, and satellite transmission, this live video stream was part of an early evaluation phase of the optimum locations to establish a permanent seafloor laboratory to explore, discover, and understand the complexities of the undersea world that Jaques Cousteau used to dream about. We share this material with you in his honor.
Additional low resolution stream (480 x 270)
Windows Media Player, Flash, QuickTime and VLC are supported.
