Lim Yih En: Distribution of organisms on El Guapo

My project is about the distribution pattern of organisms in different regions of the active hydrothermal vent. El Guapo, one of the active black smokers in the Axial Seamount is the subject of my research. By examining the vertical mosaic of El Guapo and comparing the mosaic with the high definition video, I will distinguish the chimney into 5 distinct areas according to the level of activity. Then, I will identify and calculate the area occupied by the organisms such as limpets, palm worm, tube worm, cillates and bacteria. I will analyze the data to investigate how different activity levels of the vent influence the distribution pattern of the organisms.
