Grayson is an electrical engineer and has been working on the testing and integration of RSN instruments. He first joined APL-UW in June of 2006 as a lab technician, where he made use of his abilities in assembling and testing prototype electronics as well as machining. Prior to that he worked as a lab technician for the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington, where he gained further experience with prototype electronics as well as learning SolidWorks to control a small CNC mill for mechanical parts fabrication. Shortly prior to coming back to APL-UW, he was dividing his time between engineering for the UW School of Oceanography and outside contract work developing a waste-heat powered liquid petroleum gas control system.
Grayson received his Associate of Science degree from Seattle Central Community College, and his BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington with a concentration in analog circuits and power electronics in 2009. As a UW undergrad he worked with the Nanophotonics Lab where he tested chips and made custom optical mounts, and was the 2008 recipient of the Bruno Straus Endowed Fellowship, Eta Kappa Nu Scholarship, and a CDADIC/AFRL fellowship. Additionally, he was a 2006 ONSIGHT National Science Foundation Scholarship winner.
