Habitat Characterization at the Ecosystem Level

Cabled regional observatories, such as the OOI-Regional Scale Nodes, will enable the collection of synoptic data for habitat characterization at the ecosystem level. These insights will allow us to better understand:

  • forcing functions that change ecosystem structure
  • trophic cascades
  • distribution and density of microplankton, zooplankton, and top predators, including fish and marine mammals, and
  • predator-prey interactions.
