Axial Seamount Overview

Axial Seamount Overview

). A) Axial Seamount is the most magmatically active portion of the Juan de Fuca Ridge, significant CO2 degassing occurs during volcanic events, and it hosts three hydrothermal fields within its central caldera. B) A full water column mooring with an instrumented profiler and winch provide vertical measurements with 7 and 4 cycles/day, respectively. This system could capture a megaplume event in real-time, something never before achieved. C) An diverse suite of sensors within the ASHES vent field, including stereo HD cameras provide direct measurements for examining the connections between volcanism and life.
